There has been some respite from the heavy rain. A major incident was declared in Somerset because of flooding risks in and around the Somerset levels. Not as severe as the floods experienced in 2014 when homes had to be evacuated. Thankfully we’re not too close to the levels to experience the impact.
Today though we had sleet and snow showers. The snow didn't settle but we were gifted with a sunny yet chilly afternoon and the snowdrops glistened and daffodils sprout in and around the spring garden.
An afternoon of flower faffing with what we could find in the garden. It’s tricky to find much colour at this time of year, but there’s viburnum flowering, and we had some dried lavender, honesty and seed poppy heads saved from the summer.
The flower frogs were put to good use. The ones we used above are medium sized from the Niwaki range which is available from in our tool store, along with the Niwaki snips that we could not be without.

Midwinter spring is its own season
Sempiternal though sodden towards sundown,
Suspended in time, between pole and tropic.
When the short day is brightest, with frost and fire,
The brief sun flames the ice, on pond and ditches,
In windless cold that is the heart’s heat,
Reflecting in a watery mirror
A glare that is blindness in the early afternoon.

Thanks for reading. Hope you’re all keeping well. Please feel free to share your seasonal experiences. How’s winter treating you? :)
I love reading this! Such a beautiful window to your magical world. This wintering time is an opportunity to self care and tend to things that are often forgotten. I am setting aside time in my day to read through my stack of books by my night table. A moment to escape and be present. Thank you for such beautiful photos and words!
